A Table Top made from Single Solid Oak Pieces

Each Komodo table top is made from full-length single solid pieces of oak, locked together as one in our unique design. Not only does that mean that the oak’s colour and grain flows unbroken along the entire length of the table, but also that the entire table has no glued joints. So instead of becoming shabby with age, the table’s oak will age like a fine wine.

Most other oak table tops are made up of many smaller pieces of oak that have been glued, or laminated, together. This is because it is a much cheaper process but the result is an oak top which looks unnatural and will split along the glued joints as it ages.

You can easily identify a cheaper laminated oak top; just look for the many square joints in the table top where the oak suddenly and unnaturally changes colour and the grain stops and starts.

Because oak is a natural material that breathes as the air humidity changes throughout the year, it contracts and expands slightly every year. As it does so, a glued oak table top will unavoidably split along the glued joints making the table look cheap and worn-out. Our table tops are made from single solid pieces of oak, so the oak can breathe and always stay looking completely natural as it ages.
